01 · The brief

Pushed through a 24-month opening delay to first service.

Extended consulting engagement for Bhoga — a 50-seat casual Indian concept with a full bar in San Francisco's Castro District. The project had stalled 24 months past its original open date when I came in. Scope: deliver the venue to first service.

San Francisco, Castro District. Bhoga was a 50-seat casual Indian restaurant with a full bar — a first-time operator's first room, two years past the original target open and stuck in pre-opening paralysis. The brief wasn't concept or design. It was delivery.

The engagement covered what the project needed to actually open: concept refinement where decisions hadn't been made, menu and beverage program finalization, operational systems, staffing, pre-opening training, and the opening sequence itself. The scope was extended because the delay was extended — no way around it.

Delivered. Bhoga opened, operated, built a clientele for its Castro-district register. The room has since closed; the 468 Castro address is currently occupied by a different Indian restaurant under different ownership. The delivery is the credential — taking a 24-month-late project to first service is a different kind of consulting than a clean build.

A note from Brian

Getting a 24-month-delayed room to first service is a different consulting scope than a clean build. Different work, equally necessary.
